ALPINE, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol in Alpine seized more than 530 pounds of marijuana Sunday during a vehicle stop.
At about 9 a.m. on Sunday, agents noticed a car pull off on the shoulder of Highway 385, about a mile south of the Border Patrol checkpoint. A welfare check was performed on the driver and the car.
"Suspicious looking bundles" covered by a blanket were found in the back of the car. A Border Control canine found narcotics in the bundle, later finding it to be marijuana. A total of 19 bundles of marijuana were seized weighing 530.29 pounds with a street value of about $424,232.
The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana, which is an illegal controlled substance.
The case and the narcotics have been turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
