WEST ODESSA, Texas — The Ector County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a homicide in West Odessa.
According to Sheriff Mike Griffis, at about 3:45 p.m. Monday, ECSO received a call in reference to a gunshot victim in the 9000 block of Albert Drive, west of Tripp Avenue.
Upon arrival, ECSO found a deceased 26-year-old woman in front of the residence. She was later identified as Kayla Allen.
Witnesses told authorities that a suspect left the area in a silver Nissan. A Nissan that matched that description was located in Ward County by the Ward County Sheriff's Office and Texas DPS troopers. The driver, 18-year-old Logan Allen, was detained.
According to Griffis, Logan confessed to the murder to investigators. It was also revealed that Logan and Kayla were cousins. Family members have said he was believed to have mental issues.
A warrant for first degree murder was obtained for Logan with a bond of $1 million. The extradition process will begin, and Logan will be transferred to the ECSO jail when the process is complete.
Griffis says a motive has not been established.
