'She finally had the strength to leave him' | Family of woman murdered in Midland speaks out

The murder suspect, Wilburt Ray Davis, has been on the run since May 21. According to Kendra Vollmers' family, their relationship ended the day before her death.

MIDLAND, Texas — It's been four months since Kendra Nicole Vollmers of Midland was allegedly murdered inside her own home in Midland.  The murder suspect, 54 year-old Wilburt Ray Davis, has been on the run since May 21.

According to a press release from the City of Midland, 34-year-old Kendra Vollmers was discovered dead inside her home by family members.

"I found her [...] I was walking home from school and I unlocked the door and she wasn't there..." said Kureesa White, Vollmers' teenage daughter. "When I tried to call her I heard the dogs running around the house...So I went into the room where the dogs were and I saw her and then I called 911."

At approximately 5 p.m., Midland Police responded to a murder at the 4400 block of Parkdale Drive. The scene indicated that Vollmers had been strangled to death

"There was a swarm of emotions, it was anger and sadness and I couldn't process what had happened [...] I can't even remember half of that day because everything was so painful," said White.

According to Vollmers' younger sister, Richele Flournoy, the mother of two put an end to a few months-long relationship with Davis, the day before she was murdered.

"When she finally ended the relationship, she felt safe to tell me," Flournoy said. "She told me that he had been abusive, basically, since they had started dating, which was around October or November of last year, so they had only been together for about seven months, and he had been abusive the whole time. She had finally got the strength to leave him."

Upon investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Davis.

"We found out after my sister was murdered that Nicole was not the first woman that he had been abusive with. He has a history of abusing the woman that he's in a relationship with," Flournoy said. "So if you are a woman, I would be very cautious and I would be very afraid and anyone else who is aiding him. There is a family that is suffering because he carelessly killed someone who didn't deserve it, and so I would ask anyone for any information to come forward."

The family of Vollmers shared they feel her absence everyday as they also await to learn the person who murdered her is finally behind bars.

"She was loud, the life of the party [...] She would always bringhten up whatever room she was in," Flournoy said. "She would always just light up with her smile or her voice, it didn't matter because her soul was just so bright and she'll be missed."

Midland Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that can lead to Davis' arrest

Davis is 6 foot 4 inches, weighs nearly 305 lbs and according to the victim's family, he is from the Odessa area. According to police, Davis is considered armed and dangerous.
