ALPINE, Texas — 34-year-old Cesar Alonzo Lopez Ruiz, a former Mexican police officer and national, pleaded guilty in a federal court in Alpine, Texas, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Texas.
Court documents revealed that Lopez Ruiz attempted to enter the United States from Mexico at the Presidio Point of Entry.
A search of his vehicle uncovered 50 packages of methamphetamine concealed inside the gas tank.
Lopez Ruiz faces a penalty of 10 years to life in prison, with sentencing set for August 26, 2024.
