Hobbs PD make arrest in May 15 double homicide

34-year-old David Rodriguez-Baeza, who has a lengthy criminal history, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

HOBBS, N.M. — The Hobbs Police Department have made an arrest in the double homicide from May 15, according to a press release.

According to a Hobbs PD press release, at approximately 11:16 p.m. on May 15, officers were called to the 600 block of North McKinley due to a medical call.

When officers arrived to the residence, the front door was open and they observed a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Then, Hobbs PD started performing life-saving measures.

When officers went into the house, they found another man suffering from a gunshot wound. Hobbs Fire Department Emergency Medical Services arrived to the scene and attempted to perform life-saving measures.

Both men later died. The two men have been identified as 54-year-old David Castillo and 52-year-old Felipe Castillo.

After eight days of investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 34-year-old David Rodriguez-Baeza, a.k.a. "Paps". On Thursday, Rodriguez-Baeza was arrested by authorities without further incident.

Rodriguez-Baeza has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder.

  • Shoplifting: 2x
  • Aggravated DWI: 1x
  • Driving while under influence of intoxicating liquor: 1x
  • Battery against a household member: 3x
  • Robbery: 1x
  • Aggravated Battery against a household member: 1x
  • Criminal damage to property of a household member: 1x
  • Concealing Identity: 1x
  • Tampering with evidence: 1x
  • Larceny: 1x
  • Receiving/transferring stolen vehicle: 1x
  • Burglary: 1x
  • Aggravated Battery: 1x
  • Criminal Damage to Property: 1x
