Loving County Judge Skeet Jones indicted by Howard County Grand Jurors for 2021 livestock theft incident

On Nov. 11, 2021, Loving County Judge Skeet Jones was charged with livestock theft worth under $150,000. Jones was indicted Tuesday for the theft.

HOWARD COUNTY, Texas — CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article that appeared on this website for less than an hour on October 31, 2023 incorrectly described a public warning issued in 2016 by the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct against Judge Skeet Jones. The warning, which was not a criminal proceeding, reprimanded Jones for his conduct as a judge in entering plea agreements for illegal parking and imposing excessive fines. He was not charged with a crime in connection with the warning. We apologize for the error.

Howard County Grand Jurors have indicted Loving County Judge Skeet Jones for livestock theft that he was charged with back on Nov. 11, 2021.

According to Howard County court records, the livestock theft was worth under $150,000 and he did not commit it alone, Cody Williams, Leroy Medlin and Johnathon Alvarado collaborated as well.

When you pick up an estray cattle that is not owned by yourself you need to report the livestock to the local sheriff's office. The sheriff's office would then contact the livestock's owner and work toward reunification. Investigators say Jones did not do that.

According to the Howard County Jail Portal, Judge Jones was booked into the Howard County Jail but then immediately bonded out. Jones' bond was $5,000.

According to the Loving County website, Jones is still the County Judge.
