MIDLAND, Texas — On Thursday, August 8, a 56-year-old man was arrested for aggravated robbery at a laundromat in southeast Midland, according to a press release from then City of Midland.

Ivory Lugene Merrite, facing first-degree felony charges, was booked into the Midland County Jail after admitting to the robbery at Wash Em Up Laundromat, located in the 700 block of East Florida Avenue.

According to an MPD report, officers were dispatched to the laundromat at 7:24 a.m. Upon arrival, they determined that Merrite had entered the establishment, threatened a 20-year-old female attendant with a weapon and demanded that she open the cash register.

Merrite then stole the money and escaped in a white 2024 Mitsubishi. Detectives traced his vehicle to the America’s Best Value Inn at 3610 Bankhead Highway.

Around 2:50 p.m., officers arrested Merrite after a brief foot chase. They recovered a sum of cash believed to be from the robbery and items of clothing Merrite had worn during the incident. MPD reported that Merrite later confessed to the crime.
