ODESSA, Texas — A man was found guilty on Thursday for a murder that took place at a DK convenience store in Odessa in April of 2022, according to the Ector County Portal.
According to NewsWest 9's original reporting on the case, Isaiah Dominique Renteria was having a verbal disagreement with a man identified as 49-year-old Shawn McCracken at a DK convenience store in the 1000 block of North Dixie.
An arrest affidavit for Renteria stated that he claimed McCracken "approached him and struck him several times in the face."
Renteria then shot and killed McCracken and fled the scene.
The affidavit stated the Odessa Police Department officers on the case were made aware by dispatch that Renteria called them and said he was at the Boys and Girls Club in the 800 block of East 13th St.
Renteria told police that McCracken assaulted him and that is why he shot him. The affidavit stated that Renteria shot McCracken "several times in the face."
Video surveillance footage and cellphone recordings of the incident were collected as evidence.
Police arrested Renteria for "intentionally and knowingly causing the death" of McCracken.
Renteria was indicted for the murder charge in July of 2022 and was found guilty on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
According to the Ector County Portal, Renteria was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
