New suspect emerges in Carlsbad shooting | Both suspects still considered armed and dangerous

A new arrest warrant has been issued for suspect 31-year-old Angelina Guevara for accessory to aggravated battery and aggravated assault among other charges.

CARLSBAD, N.M. — A warrant for the arrest of a woman has been approved in connection to the shooting that took place near a Carlsbad hospital Thursday, Carlsbad Police Department says.

NewsWest 9 reported that a man was in stable condition after being shot near the Carlsbad Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release, CPD was called to the hospital about a man who sustained a gunshot wound. The incident reportedly happened near the Medical Center and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

The 22-year-old victim is in stable condition.

After an investigation, a suspect named Ruben Lugo Jr. was identified. 

An arrest warrant was issued for Lugo for aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firearms or destructive devices; receipt, transportation or possession by certain persons.

On Friday afternoon, a new suspect emerged as an accessory to Lugo's alleged crime.

Thirty-one-year-old Angelina Guevara has a warrant out for her arrest for being an accessory to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, breaking and entering and aiding a felon.

The Carlsbad Police Department thinks that Guevara may be in company of Lugo Jr. Both should be viewed as armed and dangerous.

Both arrest warrants have nationwide extradition.

There is no threat to the hospital or the nearby medical facilities and their staff members at this time.
