Midland County deputies charged a man for stealing about 34 barrels of crude oil

32-year-old Jesus Scobell was charged with theft of petroleum product more than $10,000 and under $100,000.

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — The Midland County Sheriff's Office said Friday that they arrested a man for allegedly stealing 34 barrels of crude oil that was worth over $10,000 but under $100,000.

According to a media release, on Jan. 22, MCSO deputies responded to the area of FM 1213 and ECR 130 in Midland County in reference to someone stealing oil.

MCSO says deputies were advised that a tractor truck hauling a water tanker had entered an oilfield and possibly stole crude oil from a tank battery.

Deputies were able to locate the suspected tractor truck and conducted a traffic stop.

An investigation by MCSO revealed that 32-year-old Jesus Fabian Rodriguez Scobell allegedly stole about 34 barrels of crude oil.

Scobell was arrested for theft of petroleum product over $10,000 but under $100,000. He also had two third degree felony warrants out of Glasscock County for the same crime.

MCSO's investigation is still ongoing and NewsWest 9 will update this story if more information is provided.
