Midland ISD police sergeant arrested for abusing power to harm others

32-year-old Dakota Lindsey was arrested for official oppression on Tuesday after an investigation that started on Friday, Aug. 16.

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — A Midland Independent School District Police Sergeant and K9 Officer, Dakota Lindsey, was arrested on Tuesday after a lengthy investigation by the Texas Rangers.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by NewsWest 9, the Texas Ranger on the case, Cody Allen, interviewed a husband and a wife who made fake social media accounts and posted a photo of Lindsey in a MISD Police uniform with their daughter. The affidavit states that the wife told Officer Allen that she was claiming Lindsey was having an affair with their daughter.

Around 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 16, the husband was woken up by a knock on their door by Lindsey, according to the affidavit.

When the husband opened the door, Lindsey asked to speak to his wife.

When the wife arrived at the door, Lindsey told her to delete the photo posted on social media of him and their daughter because there was a warrant issued for her for harassment. Lindsey also told her to delete the Facebook account or she would be arrested, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit stated that the wife was very scared, trembling and did not want to get arrested. She tried to delete the post but was having trouble then Lindsey took her phone and deleted the account.

Lindsey then told the wife to delete any photo that shows him and their daughter together.

Officer Allen interviewed Lindsey as a part of the investigation. According to the affidavit, Lindsey told Officer Allen that the family's post of him and their daughter was fake. Lindsey told Officer Allen that he confronted them for "work and personal reasons" because he did not want it to hurt his marriage or job.

Officer Allen was able to obtain video evidence of the altercation between the family and Lindsey.

Upon Officer Allen reviewing the video footage, he could see Lindsey wearing his full uniform and telling the wife to delete the photo and accounts or face arrest. Officer Allen was able to see Lindsey making threats against the family.

The affidavit further stated that the family wanted to press charges on Lindsey.

After Officer Allen reviewed video evidence and conducted interviews, he believed that Lindsey committed official oppression, abusing his power to benefit himself or harm others. Officer Allen also believed that Lindsey was intentionally trying to deny the wife's first amendment rights.

Lindsey was arrested and booked into the Midland County Detention Center but has since bonded out.
