MIDLAND, Texas — A 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection to a child abuse case, according to a news release from the Midland County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
Authorities responded to Midland Memorial Hospital on Sunday in "reference to a report of child abuse."
The victim was identified as a "two-month-old child."
Police identified the suspected assailant as Malachi James Kendrick and a warrant was issued on the charge of Injury to a child, Causing serious bodily injury.
"Through the investigation, investigators learned that Malachi James Kendrick was in possession of the child and causes injuries to the victim," the release said. "Investigators learned that the two-month-old baby had been transported to Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock with possible life-threatening injuries. "
Kendrick has since been booked into the Midland County Central Detention Facility.
"Sheriff Criner remains committed to protecting the citizens of Midland County by arresting those that prey on our women and children," the release stated.
Kendrick is currently being held without bond.
