Neighborhood reeling after murder-suicide near Fannin Ave.

Police found the first body near Fannin Ave., then found a second after responding to a nearby house with smoke.

MIDLAND, Texas — Police investigated a murder suicide in Midland on Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of Fannin Ave in reference to an unconscious woman covered in blood.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as Iracema Diaz.

Officers then went to the 2300 block of Cimmarron, where Diaz resided. There they found smoke coming from inside the home.

Midland Police Department Crimes Against Persons detectives, Crime Scene Unit, Traffic Unit, MISD Police, and the Midland Fire Department all responded to the scene of the fire.

Officers later found Yasser Diaz Sanchez, 38 inside the home.

Officers determined he had committed suicide after stabbing Diaz multiple times. The knife used was found in Sanchez's vehicle which was at the house.

The investigation is still ongoing and family members have been notified.

Midland ISD confirmed Diaz is a member of the cafeteria staff at Fannin Elementary.

The district says there will not be any meal pickup available at the campus for the week. You can find a list of alternate pickup locations here.

Students can also contact the Midland ISD Counseling Support line at 432-240-1439 to talk to a counselor to help process emotions about the incident.
