MIDLAND, Texas — Midland Police have arrested MPD Sergeant Chance Rainer following an early morning standoff.
MPD says they were called out to a vehicle accident just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Upon arrival, officers recognized Rainer who was off-duty and has been under administrative suspension for previous infractions.
Officers instructed Rainer to exit his car but he refused to cooperate or communicate with police.
Responding officers called out MPD SWAT, OPD SWAT and the MCSO SWAT due to Rainer's knowledge of police tactics and the suspected presence of weapons in his car.
Eventually after several failed attempts to communicate with Rainer, OPD's SWAT Team and a K9 Unit managed to extract him from his car. Weapons and body armor were recovered from the car and seized by MPD.
Rainer was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital's Emegency Room for medical evaluation and treatment as well as clearance for jail.
Rainer has already been charged with driving while intoxicated and abandoning or endangering a child due to an ongoing investigation. Rainer was arrested on April 12 for public intoxication.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident was released at the scene and only suffered mild injuries.
