Multiple law enforcement agencies conduct successful raid on Rhode Island Ave. in Midland

According to the City of Midland, two people were taken into custody without incident.

MIDLAND, Texas — On Friday morning, there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the 2000 block of Rhode Island Ave. in Midland.

The Midland Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security Investigations were at the scene.

The whole incident came out of nowhere and was a shock for those in the area at the time, such as Francisco Santana, who works at W&P Tire Shop across the street from where it happened.

"It was like 8 around 8:40, almost 9 [in the morning]. I just saw in the cameras; I was here sitting in the office," Santana said. "And just saw a bunch of cops and the cameras. I just went outside and that's when we saw they ran the fence and started, I guess on the intercom, calling everybody to get out of the residence."

DPS said they were serving a HSI warrant, and the City of Midland said MPD was there to assist.

NewsWest 9 was told by DPS that they couldn't comment on anything else about the situation, but they did say that HSI is the lead agency on this.

When reaching out to HSI, they said HSI Midland special agents assisted with the execution of a state search warrant on Friday as part of a joint ongoing criminal investigation.

According to Santana, there were no gunshots fired and it didn’t seem like anyone was hurt.

"It was just kind of, it made me feel safe because of how they handled everything very professionally. It made me kind of feel secure because the making sure the cops are looking out for us," Santana said.

Santana also said two men were taken away from the home in handcuffs, but at this time, NewsWest 9 doesn't know why, who they were or if they've been charged with anything.

NewsWest 9 will update this story if more information is provided.
