Midland woman arrested on animal abuse charges

Loretta Lynn Hebert was arrested for 13 misdemeanor warrants and one felony warrant, she was later released.

MIDLAND, Texas — A Midland woman was arrested for animal abuse in Midland.

According to a Midland County Sheriff's Department (MCSO) news release, on Oct. 11 patrol deputies responded to the 3900 block of South County Road 1200 in reference to a check residence. Upon entering the residence, deputies observed dozens of malnourished dogs — some locked in cages without food or water.

A total of 14 dogs were taken from the residence by an MCSO Animal Control Officer, and later transported to the Midland Animal Shelter for treatment.

The news report states that "one dog had to be euthanized due to it being in such terrible condition."

Investigators said the resident, later identified as Loretta Lynn Hebert, 53, "abandoned the dogs inside the residence without food or water."

Authorities cited Hebert with 13 misdemeanor warrants and one felony warrant for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals.

She was later arrested and booked into Midland County Central Detention Center.

As of presstime, she has been released.
