Affidavit: Man admittingly kills someone, holds witness hostage in West Odessa

According to an affidavit, Omar Babativa Beltran was arrested for first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — NewsWest 9 has obtained an arrest affidavit for a murder that took place on Sunday, Aug. 11. The affidavit states that 49-year-old Omar Babativa Beltran was arrested for first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

According to a post from ECSO, deputies were called to a residence in the 12000 block of West Love.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with Beltran at the front door, told him to exit the residence and Beltran dropped two handguns.

The affidavit states that ECSO went inside the residence and found a man laying on the living room floor with gunshot wounds. This man was identified as 44-year-old Raul Hernandez Uribe. Uribe was pronounced dead.

According to the affidavit, deputies spoke with a male witness at the residence. The witness said he saw Beltran shoot Uribe while he was unarmed. The witness also stated that Uribe did nothing to provoke the shooting.

The affidavit states that Beltran then pointed the gun at the witness saying "he was not going anywhere." The witness said that if he tried to leave, he feared Beltran would kill him.

According to the affidavit, the witness told deputies he is willing to prosecute Beltran for pointing a gun at him and keeping him in the residence against his will.

Beltran confessed to ECSO that he shot Uribe.

According to Ector County jail records, Beltran has a $250,000 bond set for the murder charge and a $100,000 bond set for the aggravated kidnapping charge.
