PECOS, Texas — Thirty-year-old Gilberto Hernandez of Anthony, N.M., was sentenced to 27 years in prison for cocaine distribution on Thursday in Pecos.

According to court documents, Hernandez, who also goes by "G", was the leader of a drug trafficking organization (DTO).

From August 2021 to November 2022, the Hernandez DTO trafficked approximately 58 kilos of cocaine throughout Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.

Hernandez pleaded guilty on May 26, 2023, to eight counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Court documents say five other co-defendants of Hernandez have been sentenced, while one is still waiting to be sentenced.

“In a little over a year, the Hernandez DTO peddled over 127 pounds of cocaine throughout Texas, Mexico and Colorado,” U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas said in a press release. “I applaud the DEA for their diligence and persistence in taking down this drug organization.”
