ODESSA, Texas — An Odessa mother, 33-year-old Ashley Garcia, has been arrested after a lengthy investigation into why her newborn baby tested positive for methamphetamine.
When Garcia's baby was born in November of 2023, the baby tested positive for meth. Then, Child Protective Services got involved in December of 2023 and an affiant was assigned a CPS intake that consisted of the newborn's meconium testing positive for meth. The affiant generated a subpoena for the medical records so they could confirm the allegations.
According to CPS' intake, Garcia admitted to using drugs and not seeking prenatal care once she found out about the pregnancy.
In February, the affiant received medical records from Medical Center Hospital and those records confirmed that Garcia's newborn tested positive for meth.
On July 5, Garcia was arrested and taken into custody on child endangerment.
