ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — A Nimitz Middle School student has been charged with falsely reporting that a shooter was at the school, according to the Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) early Friday evening.
According to authorities, at 12:54 p.m., the campus went into lockdown after several reports that there was a person with a gun within the building.
The lockdown was lifted at 2 p.m. and parents were able to pick up their children from the school. ECISD determined it was a hoax intended to cause panic at the school.
The student, who police say is in the seventh grade, was officially charged with felony false report.
