MIDLAND, Texas — An Odessa man received a 30-year prison sentence in federal court in Midland for carjacking and discharging a firearm during a violent crime, acording to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Texas.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Isaac Ramirez Carrasco carjacked a couple on January 30 by threatening them with a shotgun and ordering them out of their vehicle. When the victims initially resisted, Carrasco fired the shotgun into the air, then pointed the shotgun back at the couple. At that point, the couple exited the truck, and Carrasco fled in it.

Odessa Police were then able to track the stolen truck to a nearby residence, where they arrested Carrasco and recovered the shotgun.

U.S. Attorney Jamie Esparza of the Western District of Texas was quoted in the press release, stating, “This 30-year sentence sends a strong message that violent crime in our community will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law." Further adding, “Carrasco demonstrated a complete and total disregard for human life and risked causing innocent people severe injury or worse. Thanks to the response by our local law enforcement partners, Carrasco is off the streets and our community is safer.”
