Odessa Police Department investigating a crash that claimed the life of juvenile driver

A 19-year-old driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A 15-year-old male, who died in the crash, was driving a stolen vehicle.

ODESSA, Texas — An investigation is underway after a crash occurred in Odessa Thursday morning and left a 15-year-old male, driving a stolen vehicle, dead, according to Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department (OPD). 

The crash happened at the intersection of 42nd Street and Northwest County Road at approximately 2:05 a.m.

LeSueur said 19-year-old Jonah Huirton, driving a 2018 Ford F-150, was traveling eastbound on 42nd, and a 15-year-old male, driving a 2011 Kia Sorrento, was going northbound on Northwest County Road. Then, a collision occurred between Huirton and the 15-year-old.

According to LeSueur, the 15-year-old died and his passenger, a 13-year-old male, was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injuries. 

Huirton was arrested for driving while intoxicated and additional charges are probable, according to LeSueur.

The car the 15-year-old was driving was reported to be stolen.

LeSueur said at this time officers are looking into what caused the crash.
