One man charged in fatal car-pedestrian crash in Odessa on Jan. 24

ODESSA, Texas — NewsWest 9 reported back on Jan. 24 about a car-pedestrian crash off of 8th St. and Moody Ave. in Odessa which killed 50-year-old Bracia Paige.

The Odessa Police Department on Tuesday has released new details in reference to the fatal crash and have made an arrest.

OPD has arrested 25-year-old Jose Armando Gonzalez for criminal negligent homicide as a result of the fatal car-pedestrian crash.

According to the arrest affidavit, on Jan. 24, at 7:33 p.m., OPD deputies responded to a crash in the area of East 8th St. and Lettie Lee Ave.

While on scene of the crash, officers learned that a Chevrolet Silverado hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

That pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was later identified as Paige. The driver was identified as Gonzalez, who was operating a vehicle without a driver's license and without insurance.

The next day, on Jan. 25, officers obtained video from a nearby security camera that captured the fatal crash.

According to the arrest affidavit, the video showed Paige walking north across 8th St. before being struck by Gonzalez traveling westbound.

On Jan. 26, OPD reported in the affidavit that Gonzalez was going 58 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone at the time of the crash.

Based on the evidence found during the investigation, Gonzalez was charged with criminal negligent homicide, a “state jail felony,” and was transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
