PECOS, Texas — A bomb threat led a United Supermarket and United Express in Pecos to being evacuated Monday, according to Reeves County Chief Deputy Ernesto Lazcano.

At 7:56 p.m., the Reeves County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) received a direct anonymous call of a bomb threat at United Supermarket and United Express. These locations are located in the 2800 block of South Cedar Street.

The unknown male caller had stated that there was an explosive device at one store but later changed it to another in the same area then ended the call.

RCSO in conjunction with the Pecos Police Department proceeded to evacuate the area and secure the scene. Emergency Medical Services was set up in the area and provided fire support and medical assistance.

Where the suspect said the bomb was, that area was immediately secured.  Other locations in the area that also had to be secured were Walmart and Staybridge, in an effort to protect the public.

The Midland/Odessa and FBI Midland responded with explosives detection, K9 and specialized equipment to clear the stores.

Lazcano said there were no explosive devices found and the area was deemed safe and secure.

According to Lazcano, the next step in the investigation is the threat itself and to find the person responsible who will face State Felony Charges and possibly federal charges if arrested.
