Recent Big Spring scam involves targeting those seeking massages

The scammers manipulate reviews on platforms like Yelp, Trip Advisor, Nextdoor, MapQuest and LinkedIn to appear legitimate.

BIG SPRING, Texas — The Big Spring Police Department has warned residents about a recent scam.

Scammers are advertising online or in classified sections, posing as masseuses and falsely offering massage services.

The scammers manipulate reviews on platforms like Yelp, Trip Advisor, Nextdoor, MapQuest and LinkedIn to appear legitimate.

Victims who call the provided phone number for appointments are asked for a deposit. Upon sending the deposit, they receive a fake address, often belonging to an unsuspecting business.

When victims arrive for their appointments, they discover the address is bogus and the scammers remain untraceable.

To protect yourself, the Big Spring Police Department advises to verify credentials, avoid deposits, research addresses, and report suspicious activity promptly.
