Suspect, victim identified in Ector County fatal shooting

27-year-old Anthony Cortez was charged with murder and his bond has not been set yet.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — NewsWest 9 has learned the identity of the suspect and victim in a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday morning.

At 5:24 a.m., Ector County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) got a call about a gunshot victim in the 3500 block of Flint Ave.

When deputies arrived on scene, the person who was shot, identified by Ector County 
Sheriff Mike Griffis as 24-year-old Marcos Criddle, was taken to Medical Center Hospital. Criddle later died.

According to Sheriff Griffis, 27-year-old Anthony Bernardino Cortez was detained at the scene and deputies recovered a firearm.

ECSO said Cortez was taken down to the sheriff's office for further questioning. There, he admitted to shooting Criddle twice.

Cortez has been charged with murder and booked on a $1 million surety bond.
