Traffic stop leads to man arrested for 'smuggling persons' in Brewster County

A traffic stop led to much more then deputies expected, ends in a man's arrest with charges of nine counts of smuggling of persons, driving while license suspended.

BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas — Micheal Austin Sharun has been arrested for 9 counts of smuggling of persons, driving while license invalid after a traffic stop Tuesday night according to a Brewster County Sheriff's Office Facebook post. 

Investigators say this arrest took place after a Brewster County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, South of Marathon. 

Reports say, Sharum was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, with further investigation deputies discovered Sharum was engaged in other criminal activities. 

Later after Sharum's arrest, Brewster County Sheriff's office said that deputies stopped nine "illegal aliens, from Mexico," from illegally crossing the border. 

Evidence pointed back to Sharum; investigators say Sharum had dropped off the individuals under the checkpoint.

The suspects from Mexico were referred to Border Patrol Agents authorities said.
