The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seize under half-a-pound of fentanyl at the Bridge of Americas international crossing on Sunday.
According to a news release by the U.S. CBP, a 33-year-old male and a 47-year-old female attempted to enter the country from Mexico, after the pair went through primary inspection, they were selected for secondary inspection for "additional scrutiny."
The presence of narcotics was detected after a CBP dog sniffed the pair in the second screening.
During the screening, the female suspect removed a 3.1-ounce pack of fentanyl that was hidden within her "vaginal cavity," and a 4.2-ounce pack was removed from the male suspect's "rectal cavity."
Both suspects were arrested and were placed into custody of Homeland Security Investigations.
CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha said in the same release, "fentanyl interdiction remains an important element of the CBP enforcement mission."
"Stopping this dangerous product before it can make it into our communities will help save lives," Mancha concluded.
