Two injured after shooting in Hobbs, New Mexico

The Hobbs Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place last week leaving two injured.

HOBBS, New Mexico — According to the Hobbs Police Department, officers responded to a call at approximately 3:24 a.m. Sunday in the area of Marland Blvd and Leech St., where they found 22-year-old Isaiah Chavez-Wright of Hobbs suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Chavez-Wright was transported to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital and later flown to a Texas hospital for further treatment.

While treating Chavez-Wright, officers were informed of a second individual with possible injuries. Additional officers responded to the area of Harden St. and Thorp St. where they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. There, they found 29-year-old Devin Sanders of Hobbs, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sanders was transported to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital and subsequently flown to a Texas hospital.

An investigation, conducted in collaboration with the Lea County Sheriff's Office Investigation Team, led to the issuance of a warrant for 33-year-old Devarian Gibson of Hobbs. Gibson was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, a third-degree felony, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle, a second-degree felony.

According to the press release, Sanders remains in serious condition, while Chavez-Wright is in stable condition.
