Upton County deputies arrest red diesel theft suspect

UPTON COUNTY, Texas — The Upton County Sheriff's Office is reporting that they have arrested a man on Saturday, July 27, for allegedly stealing red diesel.

According to deputies, they were dispatched in the early morning hours to a possible diesel theft in progress on SH 349, north of Rankin.

When Upton County deputies arrived, they located the vehicle after it crashed. Then, the driver fled.

When deputies were investigating the crash, they reported that a suspicious white Ford F-350 was driving around the area.

UCSO conducted a traffic stop on the pickup truck and arrested Abel Fernandez Socarras for driving with a suspended driver's license. The Texas Comptrollers Office was notified and a further investigation revealed that Socarras was in possession of stolen red diesel, according to deputies.

Socarras was also arrested for unlawful use of a criminal instrument and evade or attempt to evade fuel tax.
