BIG SPRING, Texas — Big Spring ISD is allowing parents to check their students out of school without an attendance penalty due to severe weather.

As of 2 p.m., Howard County was under a tornado watch with the possibility of more severe storms heading into the county.

George Bancroft, Assistant Superintendent for Operations at Big Spring ISD, issued this statement:

"Due to Howard County’s inclusion in a tornado watch at this time, the Big Spring ISD administration would like to let parents know they are welcome to come check their students out of school without an attendance penalty. Students who remain on campus will be released as per our normal daily student release schedule. If severe weather is upon us at release time, we will keep students inside our buildings until the danger has passed."
