ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Class has officially been dismissed, but Ector County ISD is still full steam ahead in creating the best learning environment thanks to the passing of the 2023 school bond.
ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri announced Wednesday that the first two significant projects have officially been completed in the school district.
"The first project that we finished was the resurfacing of our middle school tennis courts," Dr. Muri said.
Bonham Middle School, Bowie Middle School, Crockett Middle School, Ector College Prep Middle School, Nimitz Middle School and Wilson & Young Medal of Honor Middle School has their tennis courts resurfaced. These past few months, the updates incorporated the schools' colors.
"Any of our middle school students or their parents as you drive by our middle schools, you'll notice those resurfaced tennis courts," Dr. Muri said. "We are excited to welcome our middle school students back both this summer and in the fall as they have a chance to utilize those tennis courts."
The second completed project is the installation of 843 Promethean boards, also known as interactive smart boards, in classrooms at 38 schools.
About half of the classes in the school district already had updated boards, but thanks to the bond, now every classroom can utilize the same technology.
"Those of us that were in school many years ago remember the chalkboard. We have since long replaced them with digital tools for our teachers and students to use," Dr. Muri said.
Although we're seeing more bond projects continue, it's not ending anytime soon. The district is looking at more improvements and updates to continue for five years, with hopes that it'll be ready on time.
"I'm happy to report that multiple projects have now been completed as a part of the bond package, but we are still in progress with many of those including that new middle school that will be located in West Ector County," said Dr. Muri.
