ECISD superintendent talks LEAP initiative at Wednesday's press conference

Leadership for Ector's Accelerated Performance is a program at Ector County ISD to help sharpen the skills of teachers.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Ector County Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri talked about the initiative of Leadership for Ector's Accelerated Performance, also know as LEAP, at Wednesday's press conference.

LEAP's goal is to sharpen the skills of teachers to be effective instructors and strengthen the school's instructional leadership teams.

"I'm excited to announce that we were the recipient of a $9 million grant from the federal government, which will allow us to target very specifically 10 schools at ECISD," Dr. Muri said. "Also to provide for opportunities for the teachers and leaders on the campus or on those 10 campuses. Then improve the quality of instruction in the area of reading and mathematics."

The grant rewards educators who improve their practice and increase student growth with huge stipends. It also rewards educators and principals who take on positions at high-need schools.
