Ector County ISD discusses updates for new campuses and much more

ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri gives an update on the timeline for the new campuses after Proposition A of the ECISD School Bond passed in early November.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Ector County ISD is getting the ball rolling after passing Proposition A in their school bond.

The proposition features a new Career and Technical Education Center, a new middle school and the purchase of new buses along with other campus upgrades.

NewsWest 9 was able to talk with ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri early on Wednesday and hear his thoughts on what's next for the district.

"Step one is to develop the timeline and publish that in January. Another thing that we are busy doing is putting together a Bond Oversight Committee. Our Board of Trustees at their upcoming Tuesday meeting (Dec. 12) will be electing 10 members to the Bond Oversight Committee," Dr. Muri said. "Their first meeting will take place during the month of January. They'll meet four times a year and then once a year, they'll present their report to the Board of Trustees."

As for building two new campuses, Dr. Muri told NewsWest 9 that a location has already been established.

"Now in preparation for the bond, is securing the property several of the bond items require property in which to build. We're excited to begin the closing process for the new middle school piece of property. Forty acres on South Trip Avenue," Dr. Muri said. "We're in the process of final negotiations and I hope to close on that soon. Once we do, we'll certainly make that public and ensure that everyone is aware that we now own that piece of property."

Dr. Muri also said they are working with GRO Odessa to get a generous donation of that 40 acres of land to help build the new Career and Technical Education Center.

Once the timeline is uploaded on the district's bond website, another feature people will be able to check out is up to date photos and videos of projects being completed.
