Greenwood ISD holds design meeting for new schools

Design meetings at Greenwood ISD are a collaborative effort between multiple departments.

GREENWOOD, Texas — New schools means more space for students in the Greenwood Independent School District.

“We are building complete new buildings, we’re looking at a brand new elementary [school] and a brand-new intermediate school. So currently we have an intermediate school that’s attached to brooks middle school," Greenwood Intermediate Principal Heather Bennett said. "So we are just in a small addition. We have 16 classrooms and portables, so we will be able to obtain the space that we need.”

During these design meetings, Greenwood ISD went over all the potential layouts and designs for the schools and tried to come up with the best possible ones while also hearing input from different groups within the school district.

"It's really about what's best for our kids and our staff," Greenwood ISD Superintendent Ariel Elliott said. "So we have people here representing all different groups of kids, nurses department, food services, parking, libraries, all of those things to make sure we incorporate all the details of each of that in each campus."

The district plans to keep the community in the loop during the whole process building these schools.

“Well, I want them to know, number one, we’re going to do what we said we were going to do. And so that’s going to happen, we’re going to be transparent. We’re going to have meetings to continue to let people know what we’re doing. But this is really getting input from all stakeholders to make sure we do what we said we were going to do,” Superintendent Elliott said.

Superintendent Elliott says they hope to have students in the new schools by Fall 2026.
