MIDLAND, Texas — It's no secret that oil and gas are the bread and butter of West Texas. That's why Midland College is creating a new program to get students out to the oil field.
On Thursday, Midland College Board of Trustees approved their natural gas compression and automation programs.
As Midland College continues to grow pathways for students and their careers in the oil field, these two new programs will allow them to not only get hands-on experience, but also learn on the job situations.
"The new program and automation will focus on the automation and installation piece, the monitoring systems and the data collection of the compressors," said Pete Avalos, Midland College dean of applied technology. "Students will be able to learn about data collection, installation, troubleshooting and programming of automation pieces. They'll learn about the flow of fluids, temperature controls, and actually be able to do failure analysis on machines."
Both programs are two-year-long courses and people can start as early as out of high school.
