MIDLAND, Texas — Stephen N. Castle announced his retirement from the Midland College (MC) Board of Trustees on Tuesday, according to a news release from Midland College media relations, Karisa Danley.
Castle arrived in Midland as a fist grader, he then established a career in the oil fields of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. He formally worked for Mobil, Tom Brown Inc., and Hanley Petroleum Inc.
He also chaired the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association, presided over the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, and founded Cowboys Resources in 1998.
Castle has served as a member of the board since 2006, totaling 18 years. During his term, MC saw its largest enrollment increase since 2011.
According to the news release, that increase came from the new programs in "natural gas compression and automation, expanded behavioral health and health science offerings, and the awarding of over $1.3 million in scholarships in the Fall of 2024."
“Steve has been an integral member of the Midland College Board of Trustees,” MC President Dr. Damon Kennedy said. “Throughout his tenure, Steve’s leadership, insight, and commitment to our mission have greatly contributed to the success of Midland College."
"His dedication to advancing higher education and supporting community initiatives has made a lasting impact. I am truly grateful for Steve’s service and extend my heartfelt appreciation for his contributions," Dr. Kennedy said.
