Midland Independent School District gives update on 2023 Bond

According to the district, the new elementary school’s site work is complete, sub-slab utilities are in and the grade beam foundations and slab will be poured soon.

MIDLAND, Texas —

The Midland Independent School District recently gave a project update on the 2023 School Bond that was passed in November 2023. 

According to the district, the new elementary school’s site work is complete, sub-slab utilities are in and the grade beam foundations and slab will be poured soon. 

Cabling for the elementary school safety and security package has been pulled in 14 of 26 schools, with South Elementary still in progress. 

The tennis court slab at Midland Freshman High School has been poured, track curbs are complete and the base material is in the final grading stages. 

An update was given with information about the recent defeasance that took place in August, which MISD said saved taxpayers over $35 million. 

They also talked about community engagement initiatives from the past month which included campus project signs, press releases and information related to the naming of the new elementary school. 

It was said that there would be more information on the potential name and mascot of the new elementary school by the next meeting.  

The district said the next steps for the school bond are renovations for more elementary schools, which will be discussed further in the coming months.
