Midland ISD board recognizes 300 students, staff for achievements

"Its important that we track students from the minute they arrive to our campus so that we can make sure they are on track to graduate in four years."

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas — The Midland Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized 300 students and staff on Tuesday for their achievements over the past month.

At a MISD board meeting, they were recognized for achievements in being an AP scholar or an All-American athlete.

Staff was honored for achievements in growth, accountability, safety and more.

All of these achievements is something MISD said is important to ensure that students are being set up for success.

"So it's important that we track students from the minute they arrive to our campus so that we can make sure they are on track to graduate in four years," said Shannon Torres, executive director of school leadership. "Along that we also have several opportunities for them to earn dual credit so that when they do attend college that they have those hours and they are ahead of the game."

At the meeting, the district also gave an update to its 2023 Bond, saying site work at the new elementary school is complete and concrete will soon be poured.
