Midland ISD hosts virtual walk through experience for new Legacy, Midland High School

MISD unveiled an exciting look at the future of Midland and Legacy High Schools, thanks to the 2023 bond. The schools will expect to break ground in the summer 2025.

MIDLAND, Texas — On Tuesday, Midland Independent School District (MISD) hosted a virtual walk-through experience for the community to catch a glimpse of the new Legacy and Midland High Schools.

Thanks to the 2023 Midland ISD bond, Midland and Legacy high schools are gearing up for a transformative rebuild.

The district offered a sneak peek into what the future of Midland ISD will look like, bringing the community into the planning process with an immersive event called the TINA Experience—short for Test, Immerse, Navigate and Analyze.

Midland High School’s current campus is more than 90 years old, with Legacy’s following close behind at over 60. As education evolves, Midland ISD is committed to ensuring its campuses evolve too.

"We're thrilled to have put so much thought into every detail of these campuses," said Lyndsey White, the chief communications officer with Midland ISD. "Our goal is to give our students and teachers a true 21st-century learning experience, where every aspect supports that mission.”

The Pfluger Architects Experience at Midland High allowed the community to virtually explore and experience the new campus designs.

"Aside from just viewing static renderings, this event let people step into the campuses virtually," White said. "Whether they’re interested in Fine Arts or academic spaces, they could fully immerse themselves in the new technology and design. We hope this experience inspires excitement and connection to the project.”

Throughout the development process, the community’s requests and feedback were a priority. Casey Mirau, a project designer with Pfluger Architects, emphasized adaptability and flexibility as key design features.

"This community is growing, so we designed the campuses to expand with future enrollment," Mirau said. "We focused on factors like solar shading, wind protection, and materials suited to the local environment, creating a safe and comfortable atmosphere for students.”

The new campuses are built to last another 60 years, ensuring they’ll support generations of learners to come. The project also includes major shifts for students: sixth graders will move to the district’s middle schools, and ninth graders will join the main high school campuses —creating a stronger community for students and staff alike.

Groundbreaking is set for the summer of 2025, with construction lasting through 2028.

In addition to the new facilities, each campus will share the same floor plan but offer distinct identities for students.

"From open courtyards to career tech spaces throughout the buildings, these campuses will be dynamic learning environments," Mirau said. "Both schools will share the same layout, but each will reflect its own unique character.”

Midland ISD’s new high school campuses mark a big step forward, with groundbreaking expected in 2025. As the district prepares for this transformation, it continues to prioritize the needs of students, teachers and the growing community.
