MIDLAND, Texas — Midland ISD says it has expanded its commitment to preparing students for college by hiring Brittany Bejaran, a second college connections advisor.
This will enable each of MISD's comprehensive high schools to employ a full-time advisor to assist students as they prepare for and pursue college and college credits.
Only one college connections advisor, Becky Gonzalez, had served students at both Midland and Legacy high schools.
"We're excited to be able to enhance our support for students aspiring to get started on their college education," Gonzalez said in a press release. "There is so much opportunity for students to get started in college, and some just need a little guidance in getting started."
MISD says the primary focus of the advisors is to guide students as they prepare for college, even those who may be planning to enter the work force immediately upon graduation.
"One of the key objectives of the program is to ensure that all students are informed and equipped to take advantage of the many dual-credit opportunities available to them through a partnership between MISD and Midland College that allows students to earn credits and professional certificates while still in high school," MISD said in the release.
The now two advisors will also help students navigate college applications, financial aid applications (including FAFSA) and other essential documents that will aid them as they enter college or career following graduation.
