Staff members at Greenwood ISD receive scholarships

Certain staff members at Greenwood Intermediate and Greenwood High School received scholarship checks from the Greenwood Education Foundation.

GREENWOOD, Texas — Certain staff members at Greenwood Intermediate and Greenwood High School were surprised with checks from the Greenwood Education Foundation on Friday.

This money came from scholarships that the staff members applied for so that they can continue their own education while still teaching.

"Well, I think it's a huge blessing to so many of us. There are a lot of teachers that are working just as hard as everybody else but still getting their education on top of that and that's a really hard job because teaching in itself is very long hours. You take work home; you bring work back pretty much every day," said Greenwood Intermediate Counselor Laci Bridges, one of the scholarship recipients. "So, to do an education on top of that outside of the school hours is a lot. It is huge for all of the people that received this today, so I'm really thankful."

Greenwood ISD hopes this gesture shows the teachers and staff who received the money know that the community has their backs.

"I think the main thing, of course financially is a good thing, I think the main thing is to know that they're wanted, that the community cares about them, that we're being respectful of the staff members that we have," Greenwood ISD Superintendent Ariel Elliott said.

The Greenwood Education Foundation also raises money for things like teacher grants, student scholarships, and special projects not funded by Greenwood ISD.
