MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - NewsWest 9 is partnering with the George W. Bush Childhood Home for their upcoming Big Band Bash.
The bash is a fundraiser to benefit the home of the former president. The Bush home is one of the few presidential sites in the country that us not operated by a government agency, meaning it relies heavily on fundraisers, donations and gift shop sales to keep running.
This event will take place on September 20 at the Midland County Horseshoe arena. Featured will be a 40s-style band from St. Louis, a cocktail hour, art, a silent auction and a dinner.
The home has had a busy time this year, working to keep federal funding for the site.
"So we do have a lot of upkeep on the home," said Paul St. Hilaire, Executive Director for the George W. Bush Childhood Home.
"The funds that are used here all stay in the community and they help preserve the home, help fund our other programs such as our literacy program and education programs that we have throughout the year."
