MIDLAND, Texas — Midland Memorial Hospital has announced that they have achieved Level 2 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA).

This accomplishment places the MMH Emergency Department as the second highest-rated GEDA-accredited facility in the State of Texas, and it stands as the sole facility in the Permian Basin to earn this distinction.

The GEDA program focuses on improving care for older adult patients by emphasizing critical areas such as staffing, education, and geriatric-focused policies and protocols.

The program operates at three levels, akin to trauma center designations. Emergency clinicians and administrators work toward specific criteria and goals to achieve accreditation. The process entails implementing over two dozen best practices for geriatric care.

The level of GEDA accreditation attained depends on how many of these best practices an emergency department successfully adopts.

Director of Emergency Services at Midland Memorial Hospital, Dana Taylor, provided this statement: “Our priority is to provide a high standard of care to our patients. This accomplishment is a testament of that commitment.".

Congratulations to the Midland Memorial Hospital Emergency Department!
