Pink in the Park certainly made Centennial Park pink Saturday

While everyone was looking at the annular eclipse in the sky, Centennial Park had its own show going on on the ground.

MIDLAND, Texas —

Music, laughter and the color pink filled Centennial Park in Midland today. That's because Gifts of Hope was hosting their annual Pink in the Park event today.

“So, Pink in the Park is all about raising breast cancer awareness, it’s about empowering women to take control of their health and their bodies," said Clint Dickson, Executive Director of Permian Basin Gifts of Hope. "It’s about promoting awareness that it is an issue to be aware of but also to raise awareness that there’s more to life than a cancer diagnosis.”

Seeing not only friends and family, but also the community come out to support the cause brightens up every survivor’s day.

“It brings me so much joy," said Jennifer Soto, breast cancer survivor. "We really enjoy just celebrating each other and those that we’ve lost to breast cancer and so us just coming together, it really means a lot to us that people are here to support us and just show us that they care.”

But again, this event isn’t just about celebrating life.

It’s also to help bring awareness to breast cancer and let people know that it can happen to anyone.

“You know, just to bring awareness to breast cancer," said Kayla Martinez, another breast cancer survivor. "It doesn’t matter your age or anything, cancer doesn’t discriminate on ages or anything like that. So it’s just good to bring awareness to everybody."

Gifts of Hope also made sure to show appreciation for the caregivers and supporters of breast cancer survivors as well.
