The hearing for an Odessa man suspected in the death of a 2-year-old boy took place on May 16.
Marqalo Flores, 20, was originally charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury back on August 7.
The child was airlifted to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries and later died on August 9. Flores’ charges were then upgraded to capital murder.
Flores plead guilty to the lesser charge if injury to a child. He has been sentenced to 45 years in prison and must serve at least 25 before he is eligible for parole.
As part of this plea deal, Flores waived his right to an appeal.
According to a press release from the office of the District Attorney, the victim's family supports the plea.
The child is also connected to the investigation of the Lubbock Medical Examiner, Dr. Sam Andrews.
Andrews is accused of illegally harvesting organs from the 2-year-old as well as another child who died in an accidental house explosion also in August 2018. This investigation is still ongoing.
