ODESSA, TX (KWES) - 2 Odessa police officers were named "Officers of the Month" for the month of October.
Cpl. James Dessena and Officer Michael Baer were selected.
We're told that on the morning of Oct. 1, 2017, both officers were called out to the 1400 block of Westbrook Ave. in reference to a medical call.
When the officers arrived, CPR was performed on a 94-year-old man who was unresponsive and not breathing.
That's when Cpl. Dessena lifted the man slightly to open his airway while Officer Baer began chest compressions.
We're told based on the officer's actions, the man became responsive and opened his eyes.
That man was taken to the hospital.
Officials said an Odessa Fire-Rescue Captain commended the efforts of the officers for providing good quality CPR that was extremely crucial in dictating a positive outcome for the man.
Cpl. Dessena has been with the department for 3 and a half years and while Officer Baer has been with the department for 2 years.
