ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 20 (I-20) near Mile Marker 104 Westbound involving two semi-trucks, resulting in one death and injured another around 11 a.m. Sunday.

According to a news release from the Department of Public Safety, the driver of a 2024 International Truck Gregory Lee Dills, 60, of Shelby, North Carolina was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa in stable condition. Dills' passenger Scott Allen Burgess, 68, also of Shelby, North Carolina was not wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities, when the crash occurred and was pronounced dead at the scene.

John Collingsworth Jr., 66, of Canton, Texas — the driver of a 2022 Freightliner with a trailer — was not injured.

Reports say the crash occurred when the 2024 International Truck was behind the 2022 Freightliner, traveling westbound on I-20 near mile marker 104 in the outside lane.

DPS spokesperson Sgt. Steven Blanco reported that Freightliner driven by Collingsworth slowed down to avoid debris in the roadway. This is when the 2024 International truck driven by Dills experienced a blowout in its front right tire. The international truck then struck the 2022 Freightliner truck's trailer.

This crash remains under investigation.
