Ector County ISD Bond Committee assesses $424 million construction plan

Yesterday was the committee's second meeting, which went over presentations on construction and financial updates.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — The Ector County ISD bond oversight committee took place yesterday, April 30, to make sure bond dollars are being spent properly.

Yesterday was the committee's second meeting, which went over presentations on construction and financial updates.

One of those updates was the purchase of new school instruments and technology.

The committee also showed members demonstrations on how to make financial decisions for big projects and walked through the process of hiring an architecture firm and reviewing requests for qualifications.

While the bond committee is still in the initial stages, ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri said that learning these skills will not only help save money but also help invest in students' education.

“I think it helped them understand how a large organization makes decisions to ensure that we’re getting the best bang for the dollars we spend. Our community expects us to spend their money wisely and to make really good investments for children. So tonight, we helped our committee understand how we were doing that as an organization.”

Dr. Muri also added that the next step is to take the $424 million in bond money and sell a portion of it to the bond market.

“So, in the months of May and June, members of our community will have a chance to purchase the first round of bonds that were selling. So, we were going to take about 300 million dollars' worth of bonds to the market and were working with multiple firms in the sale of those bonds. So, within the next couple weeks, there will be some advertising that will come out. Members of Ector County—folks that live in this county—will have a chance to purchase those bonds first before they ever hit the market. And so, information is forthcoming, but any resident of this community that is interested in purchasing those bonds, I would just encourage you to pay attention, over the next couple weeks. We’ll be providing more information to members throughout our community.”

The goal is to have all projects finished by the end of 2028.
