The new Safe Place facility in Midland wouldn't be possible without their West Texas donors

Almost $25,000,000 was raised by more than 200 foundations, businesses and people. All so that people experiencing domestic violence can go to a safe place.

MIDLAND, Texas — Safe Place of the Permian Basin's new facility in Midland has been in the works for more than a decade.

"It was a dream," said LeeAnna Good, director of development for Safe Place of Permian Basin. "It was a vision."

A vision that is now being seen in Midland on Andrews Highway.

'We're delighted that we have a new facility that doubles our capacity to serve and provides lots of room for growth programs and help to those who live in that environment to get out of it," Good said.

Serving 15 counties in West Texas, Safe Place is where victims of domestic violence can go to get help.

After breaking ground in November 2021, the new facility is officially furnished, staffed and ready to go for clients.

"We're so excited to have this new facility. We've been in our older building for about 40-45 years, and we found what worked there, what didn't work there," Good said. "Looked around and designed this new facility so it would serve our clients better, provide more privacy for them in the shelter space, more integrity, a better place to heal for them and their children."

The facility is more than 40,000 square feet, has 24 residential units and 144 beds.

It also has playrooms for the kids, a kitchen and dining hall, a playground and many more amenities that make the place feel safe and just like a home.

"This new building gives us all the capacity that we need to grow and yes, our clients love it," Good said.

And they couldn’t have built this facility without good old fashioned West Texas hospitality.

"We have this beautiful donor wall that only features, you know, about 75% of our donors," Good said. "There are people who came from far and wide that wanted to see this facility built because they understood we need this help in this area."

Over 200 foundations, businesses and people around the Permian Basin raised almost $25,000,000 for the campaign.

"Midland, Odessa the Permian Basin is a very generous part of the world," Good said.

Showing how much West Texans really care about helping people get the support they need.

These donations are going toward an incredible cause combatting an issue that’s far too commonplace in our society.

"We provide three meals a day to our clients, and they live in the shelter at no cost to them while they're meeting with counselors and advocates to plan a safety plan to move on from here," Good said. "It's very safe and we want people to know safe places here for the long term to serve the people of the Permian Basin."

Making sure this safe place continues to be even more of a Safe Place.
